AN INTERVIEW WITH ODD TUESDAY
Winter 2022
How did you come up with the name?
In seventh grade, I (Aidan) was helping my dad paint his room-- we had recently gotten rock band 4 and were trying to come up with names for our band. During this conversation, Odd Tuesday just came to me and I loved and told them we couldn’t because one day, it was gonna my band.
How would you describe your sound?
Jangly indie/emo pop songs made by small weird angry people for other weird angry people.
How did the members meet?
Counterintuitively to who we are, Davy and Aidan met at church in 8th grade after Davy had seen Aidan’s ukulele videos and asked him to join his band, but becomingly enough, Aidan also played drums, so he originally joined the lineup on them, but would move to guitar 6 months later when davy met Joel in his algebra class and they bonded over a mutual love of punk rock and shared confusion over their eccentric, Buffy the Vampier Slayer-loving algebra teacher.
If you had no choice but to become a cover band, who would you cover?
Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem.
What is the hardest part about being in a band?
Since we all come from a wild variety of musical influences spanning from hardcore to opera, Creating a consistent sound that also appeals to a wider audience without sacrificing creativity can be a challenge.
What is your end goal?
World domination or sustainability through music as a career, whichever comes first teehee.
If your grandmother wrote a review on your band what would it most likely say?
Davy & Aidan: "Well… it’s certainly loud and passionate."
Joel: "Oh my word!! How am I back from the dead :0???!!?"
What is the craziest thing you’ve experienced as a band?
So Much. Getting tipped in edibles at a show, having a string break mid song and Davy rapping hypnotize by biggie while Aidan tuned the borrowed guitar, or Joel’s finger being sliced open during the second song and finishing the set like a sexy badass.
Which song of yours was the most fun to write & make?
Lukewarm Seymour. We first started writing it right after a previous member had left the band and we were unsure of how to handle the situation, but this song really helped us regain our confidence as it’s one of our most seminal songs; it really encapsulates our sound as a whole, and each member played a major roll in the writing process.
What helps bond you as a band?
We really just never leave eachother alone which somehow works out in our favor and has given our relationship with each other a pretty symbiotic feel. We've also just been friends for such a long time, so in turn have had the opportunity for some extensive trauma bonding.
